Well, it is happening - we’re buying a way too expensive of a house, and on top of it, we’re keeping our current house as a rental. So, when our leases are up in April of 2020, we will probably just give them back, and not get another “new” car.
Instead, I’ll use the my old 2000 Tundra with 133k miles, and wife will buy a 2009 Honda Fit with 40k miles and stick. It was her late grandmas, and it literally was used to store and church. Her uncle from New York inherited it, but it lives at my father in laws garage in Colorado. We can have it for whatever we want to pay them.
I think it is base, so I might have to find some Fit Sport parts
This way, we’ll have no car payments for foreseeable future . Great idea financially, but puts a stop on my Abarth plans.
But, in order to agree to this, I told my wife I want to fix up the Tundra. As on queue, bam! I just don’t know if I am ready to spend $2000 on bumpers, although I have the cash ready to go.

Any chance on selling outright rather than turning in? I made about $5k on my ‘12 Tundra by selling rather than turning it in.

I definitely second this, find out what the residual is on the lease and if you can sell it for more than that, profit!

I will definitely look into it. They will both be 36 months old, with payoff of $19600 or so, I have to check the exact numbers. I have nameless muffler delete I can remove or sell with the car, and a set of OEM wheels with winter tires which I can throw into a sale. Wife’s is bone stock - except she has all season tires and a spare set of summer tires. We might make a few bucks, so it is an option. I think dealerships would sell these for $ 22-23k or so.

I used to have a 2003 Civic Si. This will bring me back. But, it’s cheap, reliable, and we can just pay tons on the mortgage.

Congrats! And the good news is you may be able to still have an Abarth in the future since they depreciate A LOT.
Here is one with 88,000 miles for only $6000

They’re definitely better with stick. The ones with the regular 5 speed auto have a 0-60 time around 2 seconds slower. The CVT ones are only about 1 second slower on the 0-60 run compared to the manual one from the same year.
And if you ever owned a Civic from the 1980s like I did, the Fit is the modern Honda that is closest to the Civics made back when Soichiro Honda was still alive.

They are dirt cheap. I’ll have one again for sure.

I’m sure James likes Fits, if he likes Pandas.

Make sure you have a few months of mortgage payments saved up first (unless that one is paid off) . Just in case you have to evict your tenants and pay 2 mortgages for a while . T he process can take up to 3 months. Y ou can do a great job screening tenants, but things happen.

Tell me about it... my folks have 7 properties. We’ve been through just about everything.

Oh ok, so you know what to expect. Just didn’t want you to go into it blind like I did. I wish I had some exposure to it before I got started. Picking the right tenants is the key. Sometimes that means letting them be vacant for a few weeks longer than you'd like.

The alternative is horrifyingly more expensive anyway. Good tenants are sometimes really hard to find...
